Canada:2002 Annual Report on Missing Children

OTTAWA, May 26 /CNW/ – Solicitor General of Canada Wayne Easter today
released Canada’s Missing Children, the 2002 Annual Report, to mark National
Missing Children’s Day.

This national day of awareness draws attention to the thousands of
Canadian children who go missing each year, and highlights the success of the
federal Our Missing Children program in returning missing children to their
rightful guardians.

“This report demonstrates the value of the Our Missing Children program,
which brings together police, government agencies and voluntary organizations,
for the safety of our children,” said Minister Easter. “Many families in
Canada are reunited thanks to their efforts.”

National Missing Children’s Day is commemorated on May 25 of each year.
The report, issued by the RCMP’s National Missing Children Services,
identifies the number of reported missing children and studies on related
issues.

In 2002, there were 66,532 missing children cases entered in the Canadian
Police Information Centre (CPIC) system….
